Prior to the removal of the pavement on this highway bridge in Central England, our client needed an estimate of the volumes to be removed. Thanks to our non-destructive measurements, we were able to provide results in a short period of time.
Our analysis unveiled a very heterogeneous composition of the pavement, consisting of different layers of asphalt, unreinforced concrete and lean concrete, with total thicknesses reaching 40+ cm. This unexpected result was first confirmed with local core samples and finally by the total removed volume of pavement. Furthermore, our study revealed sound waterproofing and no delamination could be found in the bridge deck.
